My month on bikes – May

Well after promising I’d spend more time on my MTB in last months update post I only managed a single off road excursion in May which saw a measly 30.77km clocked up on the dirt. The total for the month was 325.01km ridden, 58.31km indoors on the Zwift Ride and a respectable 235.93km out on the roadbike.

My only MTB ride was a good one however, I managed a rare Saturday morning ride out at the Llandegla trail centre with a couple of riders who are both significantly faster than me down anything remotely fast and technical. Ian and Lizzie ( who is in fact the previous owner of my Santa Cruz Bronson MTB) both know these trails really well and trying to keep them even vaguely insight on some of the black graded sections really pushed me out of my usual comfort zone which is no bad thing, sometimes the only way to learn the true limits of your tyres is scaring yourself stupid down a switchback descent..

On the tarmac side I can feel my fitness slowly coming back after a couple of decent rides out this month making the most of the unseasonably warm and sunny weather here in the UK. I was hoping to really get some long rides in during May but a nasty and prolonged bout of DIY in the middle of the month saw me trapped firmly indoors wielding a paint brush rather than turning the cranks. All was not lost however as the domestic brownie points I gained from completing the long put off redecoration of our front room did partially offset the fallout from my long suffering wife discovering the undeniable dent in the family finances after ‘a few’ bike related purchases.

The AliExpress PowerMeter and the XT Di2 Upgrade on the MTB have been covered in separate posts, and there is yet another ‘small’ addition to the two wheeled fleet that I haven’t covered yet but that post is coming soon. Lets just say its a classic that’s going to need some time and attention (and cash…) to bring it back to it’s former glory but it was a bargain and I just couldn’t pass it up honest, but more about that shortly, here’s a small teaser till next time.
